Protect your home – Install Metal Shutters
Now when a hurricane is headed your way, one of the quickest ways to cover your windows is with metal storm shutter panels. Other options include polycarbonate panels and plywood. With metal storm shutters, once the tracks are installed panels can be put up quickly and easily when a storm approaches. Then when the bad weather has passed, they come down easily, and they don’t take up a lot of storage space.
Schematics and More
These storm panels have headers above the window. Panels fit inside and then they are secured to a studded angle bellow the window. For large glass doors, you can mount the panels horizontally. As with any project, always follow the manufacturer’s guide book and specific instruction.
Start the installation by measuring your window openings. The good thing is that some panels come with a worksheet that will help you figure out what size tracks and panels you need and how many. Make sure that you get the right hardware for your mounting surface. Once you have all your materials in front of you, you can start with the installment. Mark drill holes on the header with a pen or a marker and make sure that they are three inches from each end of the header.
After you’ve drilled the holes on the header place the header above the window opening and mark the drill walls on the wall above the window. When you drill the second pair of holes, fill them with silicone so that you can insert the screws in them. Wait for the silicone to dry off, though, you don’t want those screes to mend with the silicone. This way you will be able to remove the headers easily when you decide that you don’t need the storm shutters anymore.
